BILL MCKENNEY 1968 - 1986? MANAGER-CONVENTION AND GROUP SALES, DIRECTOR-CONVENTION AND INTERLINE SALES, MANAGER-DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS DEN I have just been advised that Bill Mckenney passed away on Tuesday (6/25/02). He had some serious medical probs and spent a good portion of the last 7 months in intensive care. A private service is being held on Saturday. Thats all the info I have. -Bill Monday (6/27/02) Bill headed up the Convention Desk. -Carolyn Boller (7/2/02) I noticed that Bill McKenney's obit needed more info. Here is what I know: Prior to joining FL, Bill was District Sales Manager in DEN for Braniff Airways. I believe he came to FL around 1966. He was hired as Manager of Convention and Group Sales. His office was next to mine at 5900 for a while. We called him "The Captain" because he was always calling meetings after work in the boiler room (Malibu). Shortly after Larry Sills left FL to become Executive Director of the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau, he hired Bill as his Assistant. When Larry died, Bill became Manager. I believe he stayed with the CVB for just a few years. I lost track of him after that. That's about all I can remember except that Bill McKenney was one of the nicest gentlemen I have had the pleasure of knowing. I have often wondered where he was and am sorry to hear that he has "flown west." -Don Grover (12/3/02) An Oct 1977 FL News article noted that Bill was director-convention and interline sales. -Jake Lamkins (5/19/06) BILL MCKENNEY DEN manager of sales promotion per the Jul 1970 FL Telephone Directory. Bill is listed in the FL Quick Reference Directories Nov 1977 through Jan 1983 as director-convention & interline sale in 1977 and manager-distribution systems in 1983. I will assume he was with us until the end unless I hear otherwise. His wife Muriel worked in DENMQ inspection in 1970 per the Jul 1970 FL Telephone Directory. She passed away Sep 4, 2011. -Jake Lamkins (12/7/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DEN manager-distribution services Bill McKenney's memorial webpage has been updated. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Bill_McKenney.html Eight items added including a photo. Still do not know if Bill was with us til the end in 1986. Also, I found out his wife Muriel worked for Frontier, possibly as a secretary, around 1970 and she passed away Sep 4, 2011. Post any info you have on her and I'll build her a webpage. -Jake Lamkins (12/7/12) Bill McKenney was sales manager For Braniff in the 60s before he came to Frontier. Headed up Convention Sales for Larry Sills for a while and left to work at the Denver Convention and Visitors Bureau, don't remember the dates. I tried to hire him at Johns-Manville but he did not have a degree which was required. Fine man and a credit to the airline industry. -Art Giffin (12/7/12) Bill must not have been gone long from Frontier because the 1977 article shows him back. -Jake Lamkins (12/7/12) I, too, as Manager, Traffic Evaluation worked with Bill McKenney back in 1968 when the FL marketing department was formed under Walt Rollins. My office was right next to Bill's with an adjoining open doorway. We got to know each other very well and became good friends. He was a great guy with lots of airline savvy. The last time I saw Bill was at Ed Gerhardt's funeral. -Jim Jeppesen (12/8/12)
