I didn't have any good pix of Andy for his obituary webpage and now I do. (Cal Reese sent several photos of Andy. Cal Reese, Station Manager, and Andy Hoshock, Chief Pilot, shared offices at PHX Sky Harbor Airport in the 1960s and were good friends since February, 1949 when both worked for Monarch Airlines.) -Jake Lamkins (6/26/01) Carl Willmann passed on a couple of issues of FRONTIER NEWS to me. What a delight to see so many names of the good people with whom I had the pleasure of working early in my career. The letter from Cal Reese brought back some fond memories. I started as a Sales Rep in PHX and was there when he came down as Station Manager. He and Andy Hoshock were two of my favorite people. Although I was only with FL about ten years (1963-1972), they were ten of the most enjoyable years of my life. I worked several places after I left the company but never met or worked with a finer group of people than I did at FL. It is great that you have created a vehicle to enable the people of the "old Frontier" to keep in touch. -Donald Grover (1/30/01) One midday as one of our CV580s pulled up to the gate at the old terminal one in PHX, a group of "Arizona Gunslingers" dressed in 1880s attire and packing Colt .45 caliber single action six guns went out onto the ramp and surrounded the deplaning side of the CV580 and fired loud blanks into the air as the passengers deplaned. Must have been some Hollywood movie people on board. One of our DC-3s came in from INW (Winslow) one day and in the rear pit was a scarred up and uncased Winchester 30-30 lever action rifle with a bag tag attached to the lever. I had a feeling that I had better check this rifle out to be on the safe side and sure enough when I jacked the lever open a live round came flying out of the chamber. I used to do a lot of hunting around the foothills of PHX. One afternoon some of the pilots (E.P. Lietz, George Graham, Andy Hoshock & George Sims) and I took out some tin cans and targets and with our large caliber hand guns we made a lot of noise and had a great time. I was a station agent and senior station agent with FL for 33 years, Mar. 1953 - Aug 1986. 1/2 year on the job training in WRL, 1/2 year at ELP and 32 years at PHX. -John Koehler, Sun Lakes, AZ (1/30/04) Photo taken at old terminal in 1965 and shows all ABQ agents except Cliff Brown. Andy Hoshock and Wayman (Mac) McElhaney. -Mac McElhaney (This photo posted on Andy's webpage) (1/18/05) A J HOSHOCK Pilot seniority date of 11/17/47 on the 9/1/55 - 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority lists. He is not on the 9/1/81 list. He probably retired earlier in the year since he was 60 in 1981. -Jake Lamkins (8/8/08) I just thought of this one so better pass it along before I forget -- Senior Moments, you know. Capt Andy Hoshock let me ride the jump seat on a DC-3 flight from ABQ to PHX (or maybe from PHX to ABQ - I can't remember which). We were passing over the huge open-pit copper mine near SVC and I was anxious to get a few photos of it but couldn't because of the sun. No problem. Andy just circled the mine site and when on the opposite side with the sun to our back, I got several excellent shots before landing at SVC. After becoming airborne again, the stewardess came to the cockpit with a message from a passenger who had just deplaned. He wished to express his sincere appreciation to the crew for circling the mine so everyone could get such a grand view of it. The passenger's name did not ring a bell,.... but his title did. President of Kennecott Copper. -Mac McElhaney (8/7/08) I really liked Andy Hoshock. He was the chief pilot in PHX and checked me out in the Convair. I flew with him on occasion and always thought he was a gentleman as well as being a fine pilot. -Billy Walker (8/7/08) Posted at the FL Club: Subject: FL Club Updated memorial webpage ANDY HOSHOCK 1947 - 1981?
