The bike fell on him and one of the hand control levers penetrated his skull at the temple. -H.A. "Frosty" Frost (11/26/99) That was super of Frosty to have gone through the names to recall some tidbits about some of the fellows who have Flown West. I will add a couple of comments to those pilots Frosty listed that I recall something special about. On the (unfortunately) long list, I will try to do that another time. Al's Dad, was Bert Mooney, the Chief Pilot at Western Air Lines in SLC and was quite a poker player. Al's brother is still with the FAA as an Inspector in SLC. -Billy Walker (11/26/99) According to the Social Security Death Index, Albert Mooney was born 10/30/1925 and died 8/1972, age 46. I'm Al Mooneys daughter. It was enjoyable meeting you and hearing some stories about my Dad. I hope we have the opportunity to cross paths again. With regards, -Colleen Mooney Oshier (7/14/11) Good Mornin' Colleen, Al Mooney was a huge part of Frontier and was the only pilot to have an airplane named for him. There are countless Al Mooney stories. My Dad used to play poker with your grandfather back in the early days! Bert Mooney had a equally gigantic reputation as Western Airlines Chief Pilot. -Billy Walker (7/14/11) Thank you so much for adding me to the FAL Family website. I am passing this information on to my mom and siblings. I remember the day that they had the dedication, quite well. I also flew on the jet that had the plaque, one time. If anybody has any stories to share about my dad, it would be much appreciated by all of us, including the grandchildren that he never got to know. -Colleen Mooney Oshier (7/18/11) A. S. I was a pilot for 30 years with Rocky Mtn. Airways and Northwest, Republic, and North Central where I flew my favorite airplane of my career, the 580! I would love to be in the loop with any newsletters or info because I overheard my dad talk about all you characters over the years. I was good friends with Jay Curtis and Scow. I'm glad my sister got to see Jack Schade recently, he entertained me with many stories also. -John Mooney (7/20/11) The Butte, MT Airport changed its name to Silver Bow County Airport in 1960, and eventually to its current name, Bert Mooney Airport in 1972. Bert Mooney (Al's dad) was one of the greatest aviators known to Butte. Mooney began his flying career under the direction of Jack Lynch, the man who taught Charles Lindbergh to fly. On June 22, 1935, Mooney made history when he flew the first mail into Yellowstone National Park. His commercial career began with Inland Empire Aerial, National Park Airways, and ended with Western Airlines. -Billy Walker (7/20/11) FL Club Updated memorial AL MOONEY 1947 - 1972 PILOT SLC DEN http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Al_Mooney.html Added three items and moved Al to a non-ad location.
